The Sermon on the Mount:

A Cru Community Study

What will satisfy you, if God Himself will not?” This question echoes beneath the surface of Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount. This 10-week study digs into Matthew chapters 5-7, introducing or re-introducing people to Jesus and His invitation to a new, countercultural, exhilarating life in His kingdom—one in which enjoying God in rich relationship overflows into outward action that powerfully reflects His character and love.

Overview

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus presents a beautiful, compelling vision of life in the kingdom of God.

This is an upside-down sort of life where the meek, persecuted, and poor in spirit are called blessed; where both neighbor and enemy are equally loved; and where an eternal perspective radically changes how we pray, handle money, relate to others, and more.

As a whole, the sermon reveals who populates God’s kingdom (those who love and enjoy Jesus), and how kingdom citizens are to live life on Earth (rested and satisfied in Christ and reflecting Him to the world around them).

This study guide walks through the Sermon on the Mount over the course of ten weeks, inviting immersive and thoughtful engagement and practical, real-world application. Included in the book is the complete NIV text of Matthew 4:23 through 8:13.

It’s great for introducing Jesus to the curious and re-introducing Him and His ways to those wearied by living according to the fruitless patterns and broken systems of the world.
