Gospel Conversations Reimagined:

A Missional Framework for Today

In Gospel Conversations Reimagined, Cas Monaco provides a look into her PhD research and focuses on reimagining gospel conversations in today’s context. Her approach is anchored in the mission of God as it pulsates across the Scriptures and sheds light on our calling as God’s witnesses. In her attempt to catalyze meaningful gospel conversations in today’s context, Cas shares insights from her own witnessing experiences and encourages us to follow the lead of God’s Spirit by adopting an attentive and ready posture.

Overview

Gospel Conversations Reimagined was born out of a growing awareness of cultural and sociological shifts in America today, particularly related to sharing the gospel. After sharing her faith using the Four Spiritual Laws for decades, Cas began to realize that her training was getting in the way of meaningful gospel conversations and set out to understand why.

The first three chapters lay out her experiences, her PhD research, and findings from Cru City’s project, “Understanding Faith and Purpose in the City.” She explores Bill Bright’s conversion and consequent vision for Campus Crusade for Christ, and the mid-twentieth-century context in which he developed the Four Spiritual Laws.

Cas follows-up these findings with the realization that today’s context requires a theological foundation and missional framework that guides us in recontextualizing our approach to meaningful gospel conversations.

The outline of the book has been used for conference and retreat presentations, two-day retreats and six-week long workshops and think tanks. The design and flow of the book inspires innovation and invites learning and collaboration, while at the same time drawing us into a deeper understanding of the mission of God, the significance of the Incarnation, and the leadership of God’s Spirit.

Endorsements

• “We need to shift our approach to evangelism from making a bold presentation to engaging in a relational conversation. This is a central component of the argument that Cas Monaco makes in this important book regarding the necessity of ‘recontextualizing’ our approaches to evangelism in the 21st Century. This book is critical and timely—many of our mid-to-late 20th century methodologies are no longer connecting with people like they once did. This book is biblical and theological—the recontextualized approach is carefully grounded within the Bible, the True Story for the Whole World, and God's Mission (the missio Dei) is used to frame the approach we need to make. The results are personal and relevant—numerous personal stories and examples are provided that make the challenge of the different approach we need to use today readily accessible to the reader. A must read for anyone seeking to be a faithful and effective witness to the good news of the gospel in the world we now inhabit.”

• “This book peels back the curtain on why many of us feel confused, stuck, and fearful toward the evangelistic task in today's culture. Cas brings a deep level of clarity to the cultural shifts we are encountering, but likely do not fully understand. Cas also provides a thoughtful pathway towards re-engagement. Her admonition to take on the posture of a learner and intentionally move from presentation to conversation will bring a renewed sense of hope and confidence to once again participate in God's true story. This is a must read for every follower of Christ."

• “Cas's Gospel Conversations Reimagined is an important and practical resource in learning to engage our post-Christian world today. She provides a solid missiological and theological framework in re-contextualizing the gospel for effective evangelism today. I highly recommend her book to anyone seeking to be an effective disciple and witness of Jesus in our cities and culture today.”
